On August 22 and August 23, 2022, Dalat University cooperated with the Physical Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training to organize a conference to review the tasks, orientation, and mission of physical education and school health services in 2022 and to implement Decision No. 1076/QD-TTG dated June 17, 2016 of the Prime Minister approving the Master plan on development of physical education and sports in schools for the period 2022-2025. The conference was held offline and online at two locations, the Ministry of Education and Training and Dalat University.
Attending the Conference, on the side of the Ministry of Education and Training, there were Dr. Ngo Thi Minh – Deputy Minister of Education and Training; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh De – Director of Physical Education Department; Dr. Nguyen Nho Huy – Deputy Director of Physical Education Department; and Dr. Tran Van Lam – Deputy Director of Physical Education Department. On the side of Da Lat University, there were the attendance of Dr. Le Minh Chien – President and Mr. Tran Thong – Vice President. In addition, the Conference also welcomed more than 280 delegates from 63 Departments of Education and Training and 45 universities and colleges across the country.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Dr. Ngo Thi Minh presented a summary of strengths, weaknesses, and achievements in the implementation of Decision No. 1076/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister. At the same time, the Deputy Minister also emphasized improvable points in implementing tasks for the school year 2022-2023 and orientation to 2025 in aspects of physical education, sports activities, facilities, equipment, and tools for physical education and sports, and teachers and trainers in physical education and sports. The Deputy Minister asked the provinces to recognise the inadequacies in investment, organisation, and implementation of physical education and sports development activities. Finally, the Deputy Minister expressed her delight at the full participation of units across the country at the Conference and wished the Conference a great success.
Representative of Da Lat University, Vice President Tran Thong expressed his gratitude when the University was chosen as the host of the Conference. The Vice President briefly presented the history of establishment and projects and achievements that Dalat University has achieved, especially activities and achievements related to physical education and sports. The Vice President wished good health to the participants of the Conference and wished the Conference a great success.
Presenting at the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh De – Director General of the Physical Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training briefly summarized the results of the tasks of physical education, sports activities, and school health in the school year 2021-2022 and the direction and tasks for the school year 2022-2023. In the report, the Director General emphasized the great results achieved in the past school year, such as building and digitizing the entire school health index of 24 million students, winning the 4th place at the Southeast Asian Student Sports Festival with 28 medals, etc. However, besides the achievements, the implementation of the 2021-2022 school year plan still has many limitations, such as: The teaching and learning of physical education subjects in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic is still temporary, the human resources involved in physical education, sports and health activities are still weak and lacking in many locations. In the new school year, the Director General will continue to direct the implementation of the overall plans of the education sector as well as the project 1076/QD-TTg, adapting to the situation of the COVID-19 epidemic, ensuring safe and high-quality teaching and learning.
During the preparation period, the Conference received 14 articles full of enthusiasm, wisdom, and responsibility from agencies, units, and individuals throughout the country. At the Conference, three articles were presented, focusing on the following contents: (1) Strengthening the school health network and improving the capacity of school medical staff; (2) The current situation and basic solutions for the development of physical education and sports in the current situation; (3) The reality of organizing the teaching of the subject of Physical Education according to the needs and interests of learners. The presentations clearly presented the problems in physical education activities in the local as well as the whole country, and suggested solutions and initiatives, in order to achieve the goals set out in the school year as well as ensuring the all-round development of students.
The conference is an opportunity for officials working in physical education, sports activities, and school health to have the opportunity to meet, exchange experiences, contribute ideas, propose effective solutions to improve the quality of sports activities, physical education and development of the young generation. The success of the Conference is very important in building better guidelines for Physical Education and Health in schools now and in the future.
